Evidence Action’s Deworm the World Initiative helps governments launch, scale, and sustain school-based deworming programs that free children from parasitic worm infections. Since 2015, we have provided technical assistance to the Government of India’s National Deworming Day, supporting its rapid scale from treating 179 million children in 2016, to treating over 255 million in 2019. In addition to our work with the national government, we provide customized assistance in 11 states.
Evidence Action’s Accelerator is also supporting the Government of India and four state governments to expand the delivery of iron and folic acid (IFA) supplementation to children and adolescents through schools. In 2019, the program reached 13.3 million children and adolescents; the target is to reach an additional 8.2 million children annually by 2022.
Since 2016, Evidence Action has worked in India through a contractual arrangement with PKIPL. The three-year service agreement that governs our contractual relationship with PKIPL came to an end on March 31, 2021. We are now working with a new technical consultant in India with which we have close ties, EAII Advisors, to implement Evidence Action’s programs in India. With many former PKIPL staff now working for EAII Advisors, we are rapidly transitioning our work to this new technical consultant, effective April 1, 2021. This new structure will enable us to continue our deworming and IFA programs in India, consistent with our long-standing commitments to government partners.
We appreciate all of PKIPL’s efforts over the past several years. Together, we have accomplished a great deal. Evidence Action is looking forward to continuing to advance our mission of scaling evidence-based and cost-effective interventions in India.
